Maintenance & Tune-Ups FAQs

How often should I get an AC tune-up?

Once a year, ideally in spring before peak heat. Heat pumps benefit from a fall visit too.

Do I need a furnace tune-up in mild Texas winters?

A yearly check is mainly about safety (ignition, venting, the heat exchanger) and making sure the system starts on the first cold night.

Are maintenance plans worth it?

Usually only if they mean tune-ups actually happen. If you reliably schedule a yearly service yourself, a plan is mainly a convenience.

What MERV filter should I use?

Higher MERV catches more but can restrict airflow on small returns. A contractor can measure static pressure, or add a media filter cabinet for better filtration with less restriction.

Is duct cleaning a scam?

Not always, but it's often unnecessary. It's worth considering for visible mold, pests, heavy debris, or after construction or smoke damage. Light dust is normal.
